ARty

A little bit of healthy competition can spur fourth graders into reading like crazy! This is what happened this year between Mrs. Morgret's fourth grade at Clearview and Mrs. Zepp's fourth grade at Washington. Encouraged by Tami Turchich, IST, students read as many ARty books as possible, accumulating as many points as they could. Then a stuffed worm, affectionately referred to as "ARty" was kept in the winning classroom. Much to Mr. Czap's delight, the worm found its final home for the year in Mrs. Morgret's fourth grade at Clearview.

VFW Loyalty Day

On May 1, 2012, the Hanover High School Concert Band participated in the VFW Loyalty Day Ceremony at the PA State Capitol in the East Rotunda.

Mentoring Program

The students and mentors who are in the Mentoring Program at Hanover Street and Clearview recently met for an end of the year celebration.  They enjoyed food and conversation.  The students presented their mentor with a certificate and a key chain that says “One Person Can Make A Difference”.  Then the mentors and their mentees shared some fun experiences from their year together.

Mentoring is a very rewarding experience.  If you would like to mentor a student during the 2012-13 school year, please contact Diane Laucks at dlaucks@hpsd.k12.pa.us for more information.

Pennies for Patients

The Hanover Middle School Student Council recently coordinated a campaign called Pennies for Patients, which benefits children who are battling leukemia.  HMS students raised a total of $2,000 to be donated to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society in Harrisburg.  The check was recently presented to an organization spokesperson by the HMS Student Council officers.

The HMS Student Council has worked hard this year to help the community in and around Hanover.  They coordinated the annual Canned Food Drive, which resulted in HMS accumulating more than 2,000 canned food items that were donated to the Hanover Council of Churches before Christmas.  Student Council members are also helping Olivia’s House in York to accumulate donated art supplies.  HMS Student Council advisors are Mrs. Clark and Miss Coleman.
